A strange object suspected to be an alien spacecraft has been discovered on an island very close to Antarctica. What is it? Are aliens real?
In 2004, tech giant Google acquired Keyhole’s Earth Viewer application. They then launched a version of Google Earth, a software that allows you to simulate the entire globe using images obtained from satellites.
With Google Earth, people have discovered countless interesting things around the world with just an Internet-connected device. And among them, there are objects that move the entire community, because they seem to be related to… aliens.
Recently, netizens have spread evidence of such an object. These are photos and videos of a strange object shaped like a spaceship in Hollywood fantasy movies.
The object is known to have been discovered near Antarctica, on a very remote island called South Georgia in the South Atlantic Ocean. Only 20 people live on the island.
The evidence was collected by Secureteam10, a website specialising in “hunting” aliens. They used Google Earth to locate and zoom in on the “boat” located at an altitude of more than 3,000 metres on the slopes of Mount Paget.
Secureteam10 posted the video on YouTube and it immediately received hundreds of thousands of views and comments. In particular, those who believe in “conspiracy theories” are very excited at the prospect of proving that aliens are real and that they came to Earth a long time ago.
And the response of science.
It’s unclear whether aliens are real or not, but I offer my condolences to those who are overly enthusiastic about this object. Because Dr Richard Waller, a geography expert at Keele University (UK), has come up with a more reasonable explanation. And it’s definitely not alien.
Specifically, according to Waller, what many people consider a “spaceship” is actually just the trace of a large avalanche. The snow was stuck to a rock, which was nothing more than a layer of ice created by the glacier. This is a reasonable conclusion, because the place of discovery of the object also coincides with the area of snow and ice accumulation of the Novosilski glacier.
“To me, this object is related to a very large avalanche on a nearby mountain,” Waller shared.
“A hanging iceberg fell and the avalanche carried it down the mountain. It could have been a giant iceberg, as the surrounding tracks show that it slid quite a distance.”
That’s it, after all there are no aliens. The job of proving that aliens are real will have to be left to future scientists.
